Young Parents Resource Centre
(Portage La Prairie)

Young Parents Resource Centre (YPRC) is located in Portage la Prairie. It is sponsored by the Portage and Area Task Force on Adolescent Parents, a volunteer community group working to facilitate supports to address issues of adolescent pregnancy in the Portage la Prairie area.

YPRC serves youth in the area extending north from Portage la Prairie to Kinosota, east to the Winnipeg Perimeter Highway, and west to Sidney. Its main focus is on youth who are parents, pregnant, or at risk of becoming pregnant. YPRC was conceived as a strategy for addressing a widening gap in supports and services for adolescent parents in the community. YPRC opened in 1994, and continues to offer a range of programs and services.

YPRC believes that the parent and child are major contributing factors in determining the social, economic and emotional health of the community, and that the community should actively foster positive and healthy families. In providing service to its participants, YPRC follows five programming principles: accessibility; flexibility; cultural & gender sensitivity; mentorship; and confidentiality. YPRC also works continually to strengthen links with other service providers in the local service delivery network.

Strengthening families today gives hope for a stronger tomorrow.
