TPFRC serves
families with children age 0-6 and youth who are pregnant or at risk of
becoming pregnant in the community of The Pas. TPFRC began in September
1994 as a two-year developmental project, sponsored primarily by Halcrow Lake Day Care Centre, in partnership with the Opaskwayak Women's Resource Centre, and guided by a
community-based advisory committee. The project became very active
operating a large number of programs. During the 1997-2000 funding period,
the project undertook a process of reconfiguring its programs into four
major programming areas: parenting programs; child/youth services;
community development projects; and individual services. The new categories
provide definition and focus, while still allowing a flexible programming
approach within the categories.
As stated in
its Mission Statement, TPFRC is dedicated to promoting, supporting and
enhancing the growth and well-being of families in The Pas and surrounding
area. TPFRC believes that the family, the parent and the child are all
major contributing forces that determine the social, economic and emotional
health of the community.
The project
follows the Family Resource Centre model, offering a range of services and
supports for families living in the community. A key element of the
project's approach is to work in partnership with other service providers
in the community.
