Futures
serves youth and young adults in Thompson and surrounding area who are at
risk of becoming pregnant, those who are pregnant and those who are
parenting children age 0-6. Futures was developed through a partnership of
community service providers as a way to respond to specific needs of young
parents and youth at risk of becoming pregnant in the community - needs
such as counselling, educational supports, and financial support services.
Futures opened in August 1994.
The project
aims to improve the health and well-being of its priority groups by
providing resources, support and services that can enhance their lives.
Futures reaches out to participants during a time when life is full of
challenges and barriers to success. The project is dedicated to helping
young people reach their full potential and in turn provide a solid and
healthy start for their children.
Futures
is a community based, voluntary program emphasizing participant-driven
service. Service requests range from prenatal support and parenting skills
to transition housing, relocation and family budgeting. Collaboration among
service providers is a defining feature of the Futures programming
approach, and the project also has a strong focus on education, both for
priority groups and the broader community.

"Since coming to Futures I now do everything on my own, I am
more outgoing
and I have built up my self-esteem to be able to ask if I need help
and not allow people to walk all over me."
