Community Action Program for Children

Manitoba CAPC Coalition

The Manitoba CAPC Coalition is a collective of fourteen programs currently funded through Health Canada, Health Promotion and Programs Branch (HPPB), Community Action Programs for Children (CAPC). The Coalition was established in 1996 to provide projects with a collective approach to addressing the issues facing CAPC projects. The Coalition was also to create a more level playing field with respect to resources, communication, evaluation and support.

Purpose: The objective of the Community Action Program for Children is the improvement of the health and well-being of young children living in conditions of at risk.

Coalition Activities: The Coalition has 3 major foci:

  • Annual Staff Learning Conference: to promote development of knowledge, skills and training for project staff in areas appropriate to CAPC goals and philosophy.
  • Management Training: 2 annual trainings to promote increased knowledge and skill base for Project Managers regarding effective project management and operations
  • Coalition Meetings: Members meet four times per year to facilitate/promote project networking and communication between projects, to promote active communication with Health Canada, and to increase the profile of CAPC projects in Manitoba and among other stakeholders.

"The Coalition helps me realize that our project is not alone; that we are part of a larger community working together to enhance the well-being of children in our province."
