Andrews Street Family Centre (ASFC) is located in the William Whyte neighbourhood in Winnipeg’s north end. ASFC is an incorporated organization and serves as its own CAPC funding sponsor.

ASFC serves families, children and youth in the William Whyte neighbourhood. Its CAPC programs focus on families in the neighbourhood with children age 0-6. It is an integrated family and neighbourhood support centre that provides a wide range of services and resources under a community ownership framework. ASFC was developed through an intensive consultation process in 1994 involving neighbourhood residents. The process identified unmet needs, resources and strengths in the community. ASFC was developed based on the consultations, and opened its doors in May 1995.

ASFC provides a safe, welcoming environment for people in the community to socialize and informally share experiences, information and resources. Activities at ASFC are guided by principles of empowerment, sustainability and social action. ASFC serves as a resource in the community for building individual and community capacity. Local residents work with ASFC to develop and implement local solutions to address family and neighbourhood issues. ASFC can provide assistance to people in times of crisis, but its focus is developmental and preventive; alternatives and a supportive environment are provided to help community members generate solutions, as opposed to only helping them learn how to live with their current situation.

ASFC uses a holistic approach to serving children age 0-6 in its community. ASFC operates based on the principles that children are reliant on parents, that all parents require support at one time or another, and that a family-centred approach based on mutual trust can provide this support within a neighbourhood.

"My child is already counting and saying her ABC and singing songs at a young age. My other grandchildren were prepared for going to regular school"

"I got to know myself better and I am able to do stressful things calmly"
